Amy Griffin and the Magical World Chapter 3: A Fantastical New World (Part I)
By Mackenzie Amyx

As her hand reached out to grab the flower, she felt her whole body being suddenly pulled into the ground. She let out a shriek.

“Aaaah! Someone help me!”

She flailed her arms and kicked her legs as she fell deeper into the dark chasm. She felt her death was imminent. (Dun dun dun!!!)

After what felt like ten minutes of free falling, Amy could make out what appeared to be the bottom of the abyss. As she approached the ground at high velocity, she closed her eyes and shrieked. “Ahhhh! This is the end!”

But just as her face was about to smash right into the ground, she shot up, almost as if someone reversed the direction of gravity. Amy opened her eyes. She was somewhere outdoors and rapidly ascending to the sky. Amy was frantic. She had just escaped death, but now was she going to float into outer space? Drifting into orbit wasn’t exactly on her bucket list of things to do.

Panicking, Amy looked around. She spotted a gargantuan tree of Jack and the Beanstalk proportions about fifty feet away from her.

She began swimming in the air towards it. She flapped her arms and kicked her legs, but she didn’t move an inch. Amy was drifting farther up into the clouds and the tree was getting shorter. She screamed, “Help!” Amy noticed that when she said this, she moved slightly backwards.
She turned around and blew in the direction opposite the tree. Amy progressed towards the tree, blowing frantically. Finally she was just a few inches away from the tree. She reached out her fingers as far as she could stretch. The tip of the tree would soon be lost below her. Amy became hysterical, which moved her bowel and she let out a nervous fart. That was just the right amount of propulsion. Her fingers managed to grasp the tip of the tree just in time.
She lowered herself on the tree. Amy breathed a sigh of relief. Her legs took flight. Her butt led the way as she began to float upwards. She struggled to force her lower body back down. She wrapped her legs tightly around the tree and began to shimmy down the tree trunk. Half way down, she saw a big red button on the tree. Odd.
A sign read in capital letters, “DO NOT PRESS THE BIG RED BUTTON!”

Of course, like any sensible girl, Amy pushed it.
Apparently, it was the gravity button. She learned the hard way as she immediately began to plunge down to the ground. She screamed “Ow! Ow! Owwww!” as she tumbled down on branches all the way down, grasping for a branch to stop her fall.
Thud! Amy’s heavy mass hit the ground. She felt every inch of the impact and then she passed out.
Hours Later

Amy’s lifeless body began to twitch, showing signs of life again. “Oww,” she thought, “where am I?” Amy attempted to open her eyes, but a brilliant dazzle of white light nearly blinded her.
Amy had fallen on the front steps of a temple, none like she had ever seen in books or the Internet. She opened her eyes to gaze upon an exquisite marble temple. Amy slowly got up on her feet. After shaking off her daze, she walked up to the building. When she reached out to touch the marble wall, to her great surprise, it was not marble but rather liquid. When she pulled away her hand, it was dry. Shocked she stepped back to get a good look at the architecture. It screamed alien; out-of-this-world. This couldn’t be Earth. Where was she?
Amy approached the giant doors. A huge sign read, “DO NOT ENTER!”
Of course, like any sensible girl, Amy walked in without hesitation.
Sparkling and glinting in its majestic splendor, the palace had walls and pillars of white marble some a hundred feet tall.

Grand statues lined the great hall in foreboding poses as if warning trespassers to leave.
She cautiously creeped along the passage, speechless in awe of the beauty and gripping fear.
Amy glanced through a window decorated with shimmering stained glass. The sun was shining brightly through and casting multi-colored lights on the floor. For a second, Amy thought that she saw three suns.

Maybe she was mistaken. The view soon shifted as if the sky rotated in mere seconds. “That’s weird,” she muttered to herself.
One rather funny-looking statue caught her eye. Amy found herself most drawn by this statue of a droll lady. She was stout and had a quirky look about her. She wore a moth-bitten velvet cloak, a tiara, and a tutu along with a scruffy boa scarf draped about her neck. She was grinning foolishly from ear to ear. Her eyes twinkled, looking straight at her. Was her imagination getting the best of her?
As Amy walked away, a dramatic, spell-binding voice wafted through the air. “Daahling,” it drawled, “So delighted you could make it!” Amy stifled a gasp. “Is that statue talking to me?” Her heart began to palpitate uncontrollably. Her fear quickly turned to anger. Was this the being who was responsible for bringing her into this magical world? She did a super-ninja pose in self-defense and then quickly scurried hid behind a wet, marble pillar. She whipped her head out to glance around but no one was there. Where did the statue go? After all, it’s only about ninety feet tall.
Amy stealthily tiptoed across the hall to take refuge behind another pillar. But it sounded more like elephant footsteps. So much for stealth.
“You know I can see you, right? And a deaf person could hear you coming from a mile away.” The Voice sounded amused.
Amy backed slowly into the center of the hall and did a karate chop. Where did that voice come from? “Show yourself!” She said fiercely. (Although it came out meekly.) Silence followed for several minutes.
The Voice rang out again, “Here I am!” Amy whipped her head towards the sound. “Hello?” She called out, “Um, where are you?”
“Here, Daaahling!”
Amy sighed.
“I’m here at the end of the hall.”
Amy snail sprinted and checked behind the statues- but nothing.
This was getting very annoying. “Haha. Very funny,” Amy said sarcastically. “Come out of your hiding right now, this minute!!”
Amy turned to face the statue in tutu. “Hello!” The gigantic statue waved her boa gaily in the air. Amy fainted.
When she awoke and regained her senses, she tried to make a break for it. She ran towards the massive door. But as soon as she touched it, the door transformed into a wet marble wall. Amy ran around the temple frantically searching for a way out but there was none.
She looked over her shoulder. The talking statue was now moving and coming quickly towards her. Amy ran for her life.
The statue cornered Amy and its hand wrapped her in a vice grip. (Continued)
