The Day my Brother was Born

Hey guys! It’s Mackenzie 🙂 Today I’m writing about the day my life changed – drastically – to say the least. The day my beloved (heh) brother was born.

I was three years old. I was sitting with my dad in the hospital. “Where’s Mommy?” I asked. My dad smiled but he had dark circles under his eyes. “She’s giving birth to your brother.” I was confused but I just said, “Ok.” I was sitting on a chair. It was bouncy and soft. I bounced up and down and kicked my feet. My short legs didn’t touch the floor.

Ten minutes later: I was so bored. When was Mommy coming? I wanted to go home. I was starting to get tired, my eyelids fluttering and my head was leaning against my dad’s shoulder.

My dad looked across the hallway bustling with nurses in sterile uniforms. His face was anxious, worried. Finally, a doctor came out and let us into the room. He talked with Daddy and Daddy looked relieved. I quickly toddled into the room, my stubby legs moving forward rapidly. “Mommy?” I called out. I saw her on the bed. She looked weak and was covered with a thick blanket. It didn’t look fuzzy. “Mommy, are you okay?” My mom struggled to face me and said weakly, but with a smile, “I’m fine.” What she really meant was “Leave me alone to die.” I waved energetically and went over to give her a hug. My dad pulled me back and held me gently.

I looked up at the tall ladies in blue uniforms, the bright lights of the room casting shadows on their faces. One of the nurses was holding a small, red thing wrapped in blankets. It wailed and I covered my ears and frowned.

Turns out we were taking it home. All the way home, I stared at the red creature. He had a small chubby face. Mom told me it was my brother. Where did it come from? What was it? I reached out my tongue to taste it. Maybe it was a mutant strawberry. That strawberry would certainly win a competition. My dad’s face was instantly shocked. He pulled me away too late. It tasted kinda salty. He’s still salty today. When we got home, I asked my parents, “So, when are taking it back to the hospital?” They laughed a little but didn’t reply. Unfortunately, that was the day my brother was born.

PS: I love you Christian! XD
